Overview

HVAC Refirgeration You’ll find innovative Emerson products in the most demanding environments in the world – from supermarkets and restaurants to industrial facilities and refrigerated transport containers.

From motors to compressors and valves to electronic controls, Emerson delivers the industry-leading technology your business needs to move ahead.

We make it easier than ever for you to build reliable, efficient refrigeration equipment that ensures better food quality and safety.

Contractors know that commercial kitchens depend on their walk-in refrigerators and freezers every day. Proper operation of the walk-in is critical for long shelf life, food safety and ultimately, restaurant profitability.

Walk In Freezer

Walk-in FreezerWhether you are installing or servicing a walk-in, it is important to make sure you have the right compressor.

A chiller is a machine that removes heat from a liquid via a vapor-compression or absorption refrigeration cycle.  Most chillers are designed for indoor operation, but a few are weather-resistant. In air conditioning systems, chilled water is distributed to heat exchangers, or coils, in air handling units, and used water is returned to the chiller. These cooling coils transfer sensible heat and latent heat from the air to the chilled water, thus cooling and usually dehumidifying the air stream.

Compressors

Compressors

Compressors provide refrigerant gas to the buildings air conditioner systems and to the supermarket food cases 24/365.  A compressor that runs at full speed and at full load is a very efficient device; one that runs at less than those values becomes more inefficient unless there is a variable speed drive applied to it.  The variable speed drive adjusts the speed of the compressor (reciprocating, screw, scroll) based upon the temperature control needed to preserve food or maintain the buildings comfort.

Thus, energy usage is reduced by maintaining the required set point:  By adjusting the speed of the compressor, the compressor is no longer cycling on and off (short cycling) eliminating demand load:  The overall EER designed values are achieved.  In addition to reducing energy use, the system runs smoother and mechanical fatigue and pipe stress is no longer an issue. Slugging is also eliminated.

1/4 to 15 horsepower semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors provide premium alternatives for systems requiring full temperature range performance including low temperature evaporating conditions to -40 degrees F.

Every square foot of space counts. And because the K compressor’s low height takes up less space than comparable reciprocating units, you can hold more food in your freezer; not waste valuable space with bulky equipment.

Copeland® semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors provide premium alternatives for systems requiring full temperature range performance including low temperature evaporating conditions to -40 degrees F. Copeland® semi-hermetic compressors are engineered for high quality and outstanding reliability. Each model passes a grueling series of performance and durability tests. This testing, combined with decades of field experience in walk-in applications, makes Copeland compressors an excellent choice for reliability.

Scroll Compressors

Refrigeration Scroll CompressorScroll compressors are typically used in chillers from 3.5 to 50 tons. Multiple compressors are used to obtain the larger tonages. Foodservice operators demand reliable equipment and lower energy costs. With a large installed base of walk-in coolers and freezers, Copeland Scroll® has earned a reputation for great reliability. Unplanned equipment failures will frustrate your best efforts to meet customer expectations. Copeland Scroll® compressors offer a solution to maximize the uptime of walk-in equipment and also ensure the lowest energy bills in the industry. Recognizing the key role we play and our impact on energy consumption, we have designed our R404A 2-6 HP Copeland Scroll® compressors to provide the highest efficiency in the marketplace for both cooler and freezer applications.

In the late 1980s, Copeland® commercialized scroll compressor technology, which completely revolutionized the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. Scroll technology replaced conventional piston compressor technology as the industry standard. It was a significantly more energy efficient, more reliable and quieter compressor. Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc. has continued to evolve this technology to encompass larger sizes (up to 25 horsepower) and most recently introduced Copeland Scroll® with digital technology. With this new technology, the scroll output capacity adapts to match the variable demand conditions of the environment and delivers highly efficient, cost-cutting climate control for industrial and commercial applications.

Since 2000, our patented Copeland Scroll® compressor technology has been supporting R-410A refrigerants. So not only can you sell the most energy-efficient compressor, but the most environmentally compliant as well.

Screw Compressors

250w-rooftopunit1.jpgScrew compressor typically run from 80 to 200 hp. For industrial refrigeration applications, such as process chillers, the Copeland Compact Screw compressors in the high temperature range, provide an ideal solution.  The integrated oil separator and oil reservoir significantly reduces the installation time, complexity, cost and space required.  These compressors are available in sizes from 50 - 240 HP and feature infinitely adjustable capacity control from 25% to 100%.

The Copeland Screw™ compressor provides high efficiency operation. Standard two-step capacity control in conjunction with economizer operation provides the highest efficiency possible, regardless of the load requirements.

Copeland Screw™ compressors do not have any working valves and the rotating technology design of these compressors has proven highly reliable. All screw compressors are supplied with a built-in pressure switch that checks for correct rotation direction to insure protection of the compressor. Large size radial and axial bearings locate each end of the rotors, which in conjunction with generously sized oil supply chambers provides optimal emergency running characteristics. An internal pressure relief valve acts as bursting protection.

Centrifugal Compressors

Centrifugal compressor typically run from 170 to 2,000 tons. Water-cooled chillers are normally more energy efficient than air-cooled chillers due to heat rejection to tower water at near wet-bulb temperatures. Air-cooled chillers must reject heat to the dry-bulb temperature, and thus have a lower average reverse-Carnot cycle effectiveness. Large office buildings, hospitals, schools typically use one or more cooling towers as part of their air conditioning systems. Generally, industrial cooling towers are much larger than HVAC towers.
